El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, aseguró que ya no existe margen para retomar conversaciones con Irán, al afirmar que cualquier intento de acercamiento por parte de Teherán llega fuera de tiempo.
A través de Truth Social, el mandatario sostuvo que las capacidades estratégicas iraníes han sido neutralizadas. “Su defensa aérea, su Fuerza Aérea, su Armada y su liderazgo han terminado. Ahora quieren hablar. Les dije: ‘demasiado tarde’”, escribió.
Días antes, Trump había señalado que el gobierno iraní buscaba alcanzar un acuerdo con Washington, aunque —según él— dejó pasar la oportunidad. “Tienen muchas ganas de llegar a un acuerdo. Deberían haberlo hecho hace una semana”, declaró.
Las autoridades iraníes rechazaron esas afirmaciones. El secretario del Consejo Supremo de Seguridad Nacional, Alí Larijani, negó cualquier posibilidad de diálogo al afirmar que Irán no negociará con Estados Unidos.
El cruce de declaraciones se produce después de que Israel y Estados Unidos lanzaran el 28 de febrero una ofensiva conjunta contra territorio iraní, bajo el argumento de eliminar amenazas estratégicas. Los ataques dejaron como saldo la muerte del líder supremo, el ayatolá Alí Jameneí, así como de altos mandos militares.
Como respuesta, Teherán lanzó múltiples misiles balísticos contra Israel y contra bases estadounidenses ubicadas en distintos puntos de Oriente Medio, elevando aún más la tensión en la región.
