Un narcotunel entre Estados Unidos y México fue descubierto el pasado 13 de agosto, aunque ambas autoridades lo dieron a conocer días después.
Se presume que inspirados en la serie estadounidense Breaking Bad donde aparece la famosa empresa Pollos Hermanos, operaba este túnel.
De 275 metros de largo, el túnel fue descubierto en un edificio que antes operaba como local de Kentucky Fried Chicken en San Luis, al sur de Yuma.
El hallazgo se dio luego de la detención de Iván López, quien presuntamente es dueño del inmueble, al que le fue decomisada 168 kilogramos de narcóticos dentro de unas cajas para herramientas, entre ellos 118 gramos de metanfetaminas, 6 gramos de cocaína, 3 kilogramos de fentanilo, 13 kilogramos de heroína blanca y seis de heroína-café.
Al ejecutar una orden de cateo del exrestaurante, se encontró la entrada del túnel en el área de la cocina, que mide aproximadamente 20 centímetros de diámetro.
El túnel tiene una profundidad de más de 6 metros y se extiende hasta una residencia del lado mexicano en San Luis Río Colorado, en Sonora (México).
De acuerdo a Scott Brown, agente especial de la oficina de investigaciones del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional, “las drogas eran transportadas a través del túnel por medio de cuerdas, debido al reducido tamaño”.
